History

NU CHAPTER

Like our Founding Mothers, the lovely ladies of our Charter Class thought that there lacked an organization that truly embodied the representation of Asian Americans and fostered the everlasting bonds between individuals on campus. Soon after, an interest group called Asian American Ladies Organization (also known as AALO) was formed. The members of AALO wanted young Asian American women at Drexel to feel they belonged during their college years. They hoped to form a supportive social network and create learning opportunities for leadership, philanthropy, and career.

With dedication and dogged perseverance, Sigma Psi Zeta was successfully established at Drexel University on July 13, 2002 under the leadership of our Charter Class. We became the first Asian-Interest sorority on campus and still stand as one of the largest sororities in Drexel’s Intercultural Greek Council. After years of hard work and achievements of numerous sisters, in May 2015, the Nu Charter was granted chapter status at our annual National Convention in Boston and became known as the Nu Chapter of Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Inc.

Without our charters, we would not have the community that we have today! Thanks to them, we have the opportunity to serve our community and follow the rays of our SYZterhood.

WHERE WE ARE NOW

The legacy of our alumni sisters still inspires us today. We strive to serve our community and the community at large through engaging with Drexel’s Office of Equality and Diversity to raise awareness of our philanthropy, hosting educational events and workshops, and promoting activism at the places we go.

In May 2018, our chapter was awarded the Dean’s Cup - the highest distinguishing award presented by Drexel University’s Fraternity and Sorority Life. Though the sisters of Nu Chapter came from various diverse backgrounds, we continue to empower each other and will forever be united by our sisterhood.

Since we have chartered, 160+ individuals have joined our SYZterhood here and fostered a second home for each other.
